Review of the April 2008 Windstorm

In April 2008 a severe windstorm impacted upon Victoria, including metropolitan Melbourne.

The windstorm involved intense winds over an extended period. These, coupled with vegetation affected by prolonged drought, produced significant damage. Gale force winds in excess of 120 km/h resulted in widespread damage across the State including significant disruption to traffic, public transport and power supplies.

Following the windstorm the Minister for Energy and Resources and the Minister for Police and Emergency Services requested the Emergency Services Commissioner to undertake a review of the windstorm to identify potential improvements to emergency management arrangements.
