Victoria On High Alert

Victoria's emergency service organisations are warning all Victorians that the bushfire danger is not over and to be on alert with strong winds forecast.

Emergency Services Commissioner Bruce Esplin said, "It's time for the community to be prepared.

"Don't be fooled by cool weather, the fire risk remains and emergency services are extremely concerned."

Mr Esplin warned that the risk applies across Victoria, to all communities in urban, regional and fringe areas, not just those in areas already affected by fires or near going fires.

CFA Chief Officer Russell Rees said it was important for Victorians to take notice and plan early.

"We are warning the people of Victoria that the situation is very dangerous.

"We expect with this these winds comes the risk of fire," Mr Rees said.

People are reminded to take into account the possibility of reduced visibility and increased traffic on the roads.

Anybody who sees a flame should report it to Triple Zero and make sure they have their bushfire plans ready. Information can be found at Victoria Online, or by calling the Victorian Bushfire Information Line on 1800 240 667.
