Water Safety Week 2008
Water Safety Week is a key initiative of the Victorian Government’s ‘Play it Safe by the Water’ campaign. It provides a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages to participate in water safety activities in a variety of environments throughout metropolitan and regional Victoria. These activities aim to increase participants’ awareness of water safety issues, develop their water safety skills and encourage them to ‘Play it Safe by the Water’.
Last year 218,000 Victorians participated in Water Safety Week activities or were exposed to water safety messages.
Police and Emergency Services Minister Bob Cameron launched the start of the summer on Saturday 29 November 2008, reminding Victorians to be vigilant in and around water. It is important to remember the following water safety messages:
NEVER SWIM ALONE
ALWAYS WATCH THEM AROUND WATER
NEVER TURN YOUR BACK
LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP
A Water Safety Guide has been produced that allows all Victorians to be a lifesaver this summer; helping to provide a safer aquatic environment.
