Great Divide Bushfire 2006-07
The Great Divide Bushfire was one of Victoria's largest and longest running bushfires, burning 1.1 million hectares over 69 days, from 1 December 2006 until 7 February 2007.
The bushfire resulted in 272 structures being destroyed, 1,848 kilometres of fencing burnt and 1,840 head of stock destroyed, but no lives were lost. This was credited to the hard work of the more than 19,000 firefighters and support staff that battled the blaze over its duration, as well as affected communities in the North East and Gippsland who prepared their properties for the bushfire season, carrying through their Bushfire Survival Plans. More than 300 community meetings were held in fire affected areas throughout the campaign, with 31,500 people attending.
