Emergency Management Awards

The contribution of those who manage and provide emergency services to the Victorian community may be recognised by the Victorian Unit Meritorious Service Award or a range of Australian honours. The Office of the Emergency Services Commissioner coordinates nominations for a number of these awards.

Victorian Unit Meritorious Service Award

The Victorian Unit Meritorious Service Award acknowledges, on behalf of the community, the government's appreciation for special contributions to the safety and welfare of the people of Victoria. It can be awarded to a group, unit or organisation for their dedicated participation and exemplary behaviour in preventing, responding to or recovery from emergencies.

As Victoria's Coordinator in Chief of Emergency Management, the Minister for Police & Emergency Services makes the awards on the recommendation of a selection committee.

If you would like to nominate a unit, group or organisation for the award, you should use the official nomination form. It includes conditions for granting the award and the nomination procedures.

Australian awards and honours

Meritorious service awards

The Australian Fire Services Medal and the Emergency Services Medal recognise distinguished service. The Office of the Emergency Services Commissioner coordinates Victorian nominations for these awards on behalf of the Minister for Police & Emergency Services. Nominations should be forwarded initially to the agency to which the nominee belongs.

Public Service Medal

People involved in emergency management in public sector organisations may be eligible for the Public Service Medal. The medal formally recognises outstanding service by public sector employees, whether Commonwealth, state or local government. The Order of Australia

Emergency service employees and volunteers may also be nominated for appointments to the Order of Australia honours system. More information can be found at the Australian Government 'It's An Honour' website.
