| Community Alerting for Bushfire - A Local Solution for a Local Need |
The Ferny Creek Fire Alert Siren is an end product of a collaborative community, local government and emergency service working group process to establish an alerting system which would enhance the bushfire preparedness, planning and survival activities of a specific community in Ferny Creek. The project was initially set up as a response to a community request for ‘early warning’ as a result of the bushfires in Ferny Creek in the Dandenong Ranges in 1997. |

| Victoria's Drought Social Recovery Program: Commencing An Evaluation Process |
The declaration of drought in some Victorian regions and the subsequent impact of the drought on communities prompted the Department of Human Services (DHS) to initiate a drought social recovery strategy in 2003, an element of which has been the identification and allocation of funding to support the employment of community development workers and counsellors. The Office of the Emergency Services Commissioner, in consultation with DHS - State Emergency Recovery Unit, undertook to design and facilitate the first phase of a program evaluation process. This report documents the results of this phase and sets out an agenda which will enable evaluation to be continued. |
