2009 Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission Interim Report No. 2 The 2009 Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission Interim Report No. 2 – Priorities for Building in Bushfire-Prone Areas was provided to the government by the Commission on Tuesday 24 November 2009.

Ambulance Victoria From 1 July 2008, Victoria has had one ambulance service covering the whole state, with the Metropolitan Ambulance Service, Rural Ambulance Victoria and Alexandria and District Ambulance Service merging to create Ambulance Victoria.
Ash Wednesday The bushfires that occurred across Victoria and South Australia on 16 February 1983 became known as Ash Wednesday. In Victoria, 47 people lost their lives, including 14 volunteer firefighters. 210,000 hectares were burnt, 2,090 structures were destroyed resulting in 8,000 people becoming homeless, as well as 25,000 head of stock lost. Ash Wednesday remains one of the worst natural disasters in Victoria's history.

Black Friday The Black Friday bushfires of 13 January 1939 were the result of a prolonged drought and hot, dry and windy weather. Prior to 13 January, many fires were already burning in the affected areas unable to be extinguished. Some started as early as December 1938, but most of them started in the first week of January 1939. Soaring temperatures and severe northerly winds on 13 January led to the fires joining, creating one large fire front that devastated the communities in its path.
Black Saturday The Victorian bushfires of 7 February 2009 became known as Black Saturday, and are Australia’s worst bushfire disaster, with 173 people losing their lives, 2,029 homes destroyed and 430,000 hectares burnt.

Bushfire CRC The Bushfire Cooperative Research Centre is conducting research into the social, environmental and economic impacts of bushfires. Great Divide Bushfire 2006-07 The Great Divide bushfire was one of Victoria's largest and longest running bushfires, burning 1.1 million hectares over 69 days, from 1 December 2006 until 7 February 2007.
Gunammatta Beach Drownings On 8 January 1998, a fun day out at the beach ended in tragedy for two families when four children drowned. The families were of the belief the section of the beach they were at was patrolled, however they had parked at an unpatrolled section of Gunammatta Beach - the patrolled section was 800 metres further away at another car park.

Linton Bushfire Linton, south west of Ballarat, was the scene of a tragedy on 2 December 1998, when five Country Fire Authority volunteer firefighters died after their tanker became trapped and destroyed by flames. 
Longford Gas Plant Explosion On 25 September 1998 an explosion at one of three gas plants operated by Esso at Longford killed two employees, Peter Wilson and John Lowery, as well as injuring eight others. The fires caused by the explosion burned for two days, and many Victorian's were left without gas for 19 days.

Victorian Floods Review Between September 2010 and February 2011, many Victorian towns and communities were affected by floods that caused widespread damage and loss. Water Safety Week Water Safety Week is a key element of the ‘Play it Safe by the Water’ campaign. During this week organisations across Victoria provide people of all ages with the opportunity to participate in a range of water safety activities in a variety of aquatic environments. These activities aim to increase participants’ awareness of water safety issues, develop their water safety skills and encourage them to ‘Play it Safe by the Water’.
